My journey to where I am today might be a little unconventional but I think that has given me the opportunity and experiences to enhance my clinical practice as a CBT therapist and offer you a professional and dynamic approach to therapy.
I initially trained as an earth scientist in geology. Through some personal challenges and my own experiences of therapy I made the choice to retrain and work in a field where I could help people to overcome their difficulties in the way that I had been helped.
I trained as bereavement support worker for Cruse Bereavement Care, a Domestic Violence support volunteer with Victim Support and studied counselling skills at the University of Derby. I developed an interest in mindfulness and I studied at both the University of Bangor on the Mindfulness-based interventions MSc program and at the University of Derby where I gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy before becoming a fully accredited CBT therapist with the BABCP. After qualifying I worked in the NHS IAPT service.
In addition to this I have complete all four part of the EMDR training program with The EMDR Academy (providers of EMDR Europe Accredited training) allowing me to offer EMDR treatment as a fully qualified practitioner.
I have also have specialist training in CBT for children and young people, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and adapting CBT practice to treat long term conditions. I have an ever growing book shelf and spend time researching and learning so I can keep up to date with developments in our field to provide the best evidence-based treatments.
I now split my time working for a charity providing the NHS IAPT service in Leeds and private practice.
